Seasonal Opportunities - Summer positions
1) Lifeguards and Instructors for Hartney Swimming Pool
Approximately 40 hours / week for 10 weeks
Lifeguard: includes monitoring the Hartney swimming pool during public swimming and private bookings, handling money, light cleaning and administration.
Instructor: includes planning, implementing and report writing for NLS swimming lesson program.
Applicant must be fully certified or willing to take training certification (subsidy available) reliable, trust worthy and approachable.
2) Public Works Assistant
June - August 2023, 35 hours per week, up to 12 weeks, pending funding.
The Municipality of Grassland is hiring for the summer positions of Public Works Assistants to assist the Public Works Department maintenance and beautification within the Town of Hartney and Riverside Cemetery.
Duties
· Perform maintenance and beautification tasks within the Town of Hartney and Riverside Cemetery, such as mowing and trimming
· Assist public works team with the collection of household refuse
· Assist public works team with municipal service maintenance
Requirements:
· Hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba’s Driver’s License
· Ability and willingness to work in varying weather conditions
· Ability to converse with the public courteously and effectively
· Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
· Must be physically able to perform all the labouring aspects or other duties associated with the position
· Ability to use designated equipment and hand tools including but not limited to the following weed trimmers & riding mowers, etc.
· Meet the qualifications for Green Team/Canada Summer Jobs funding.

3) Museum Curator - 2 positions (Hartney & Elgin)
35 hours per week for approximately 8 weeks starting in June/July,- August pending funding (may include weekends).

The Municipality of Grassland is hiring for the summer positions of Museum Curator for our local museums situated in Elgin and Hartney. There are two positions available, with one position at each of the museum locations: the Elgin and District Museum in Elgin and the Hart-Cam Museum in Hartney.
Duties include and are not limited to:
· Touring visitors through the museum
· Researching local history
· Cataloguing & displaying artifacts
· Assisting with Tea fundraisers
· Preparation of a float and/or displays to promote the museum in summer parade and events
· General cleaning & maintenance
Applicant should have the ability to work independently, have computer skills and knowledge, understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, be approachable, friendly and reliable.

Duties and Requirements:

· Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information in the workplace
· The ability to work independently and cooperatively as an effective member of a team
· Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions

5) Whitewater Recreation Park Maintenance Assistant
35 hours a week for 8 - 10 weeks
Duties include assisting with the maintenance of equipment and grounds including mowing and trimming, directing campers, delivering firewood and rental of recreation equipment.
Applicant must meet the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility criteria (be between the ages of 15 - 29), reliable, organized, able to work independently and as part of a team, knowledge of small equipment (mower, trimmer) an asset
6) Day Camp Coordinator & Assistant Coordinator
35 hours a week for 8 - 10 weeks 2 positions available
These positions include the facilitation of the day camp program in Hartney and Minto. The coordinator would be responsible for planning activities and outings, budgeting for supplies, gathering supplies and organizing crafts and daily activities. Both coordinator and assistant would be responsible for over seeing the children in the program as well as ensuring their safety throughout their time at the program.
Applicant must meet the requirements of the Green Team eligibility criteria (be between the ages of 15 - 29), be
reliable, organized, able to work independently and as part of a team, be able to pass a child abuse registry check as well as a criminal record check, experience working with children an asset
7) Recreation Programmer
35 hours weeks for 12 weeks
This position includes creating and facilitating recreation programming, take bookings and oversee the day camp
programs, assists with administration duties relating to the Hartney Swimming Pool and campground and Whitewater Recreational Park.
Applicant must hold a valid class 5 drivers license, be able to work independently and as part of a team, be reliable, creative and knowledge of the Municipality and recreation an asset.

8) Whitewater Recreational Park Manager - TENDER
Duties include but are not limited to: maintenance of campground, buildings and machinery, overseeing and directing summer student daily, taking campground bookings, delivering firewood, accepting payment, rental of recreation equipment, receipting and reporting.
The successful applicant must be available to campers during peak times, including evenings and weekends.
Applicant must have a class 5 drivers license, be organized, approachable and dependable. Experience with small
machinery an asset. Position includes seasonal campsite.
Tenders must include salary expectations. Equipment is provided. Lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.
